Check “Get Organized” off Your New Year’s Resolution List for Good!
People with healthy habits don’t need resolutions.
Aspirational resolve doesn’t set us up for long-term success - healthy habits do.
If you put “get organized” on your list of New Year’s Resolutions for 2023, maybe it’s time for a check in. The month of January is on its way out and personally, I think resolutions should be too.
I’m not saying to abandon your goal of tidying up. I just think it’s time we refresh our word choice and consider this: Resolutions are out; Routines are in.
The start of a new year is always a good time for fresh beginnings. For many of us, that means taking a closer look at our living spaces and decluttering to create a more organized and peaceful environment. Simplifying not only improves the aesthetics of our home, but it also has a positive impact on our mental and physical well-being.
But…if you’re always organizing, you’re doing it wrong.
Imagine never resolving to “get organized” again. What if this is the year you tidy up once and for all?
Here’s the thing, though. True life change takes more than a resolution, some trash bags, and a shopping cart full of matching bins. There’s actual work involved that no professional can do for you; however, once healthy habits are in place, tidy living becomes a lifestyle not just an aspiration.
The KonMari Method®
Developed by tidying expert Marie Kondo, The KonMari Method® is an approach to home organizing that has gained international popularity in recent years. On the surface, this method emphasizes the importance of keeping only those things that "spark joy" and discarding the rest.
However, at its heart, this powerful approach to decluttering gets to the root of why we have clutter in the first place. The method takes a systematic, yet extremely personal approach that ultimately helps us identify the things that truly matter to us and let go with gratitude what no longer serves a purpose.
Refresh Organizing: Springfield, MO
After training directly under Marie Kondo in New York City in 2019, I became Southwest Missouri’s only Professional Organizer certified in this world renowned approach to home organizing.
Since establishing my business, Refresh Organizing, I have logged nearly 1,000 hours of in-person and virtual home + business organizing sessions with clients locally and throughout the United States.
My work with clients in various life stages - including busy families, empty nesters, professionals, and those about to sell their homes - has taught me that our living environment plays a significant role in our overall quality of life. The more we own, the more we must manage — and I believe we were made for more than simply acquiring and managing our belongings.
I firmly believe our homes should be a personal sanctuary: an antidote to stress, not the cause of it.
I guide clients on this one-time tidying journey that results in a decluttered, refreshed space and state of mind. We also establish a sustainable system for whole-home organization. Once sorting through your belongings and keeping only what is necessary, we then designate a place for every single item you own. We then develop a routine for maintaining the organization and getting all family members on board.
I know how it feels to start each new year with the goal of getting organized.
I know how it feels to frantically stress-clean before guests arrive.
I know how it feels to work so hard to continuously maintain a home that only appears peaceful.
But what would your life be like with a home that actually is peaceful?
What would your life be like if you never had to “get organized” again?
Through in-person or virtual organizing lessons, we can work together to put the proper sustainable systems in place to create an orderly, efficient home or work environment that works for you. Because when you tidy up once and for all, you have more time to spend on what truly matters most.
The first step to life change begins with your physical environment.
If you’re ready for a change and you’d like support along the way, schedule a complimentary Discovery Call to discuss options for working together that are best suited for you. Whether you need some motivation just getting started, occasional guidance and accountability, or a second set of hands every step of the way, it would be an honor to walk beside you in your tidying journey - however it looks for you!
Together, we will work to cultivate a peaceful, uniquely personal, supportive home environment that is sustainable long-term; therefore, allowing you to focus your time and energy on the people and passions that bring the most joy to your life.
